This is a good story and a well paced page turner. Suspension of disbelief is required for some aspects of police practice, but that's not unusual for this genre. While it doesn't bravely explore issues such as domestic violence and depression from within its chosen context (isolated rural living and drought) or dare us to challenge our assumptions about them, the author handles these issues sensitively within the confines of the plot. If you want a quick satisfying read, you have a plane to catch or a long train ride this should hit the spot.
